Arashiyama is one of the time-honored travel destination, located on the western outskirts of Kyoto. There is a lot of thing to do or see, such as Tenryu-ji Temple, which was designated as World Heritage site by UNESCO, Bamboo street, Romantic train, and so on. Here is a basic itinerary by bicycle. Arashiyama is also world-famous as one of Japan’s best spots for viewing cherry blossoms and autumn leaves.

Based on Hankyu Rent-a-cycle ARASHIYAMA, It takes 900 yen per a day on holidays, Saturday and Sunday and two hours for 500 yen, four hours for 700 yen, and more for 900 yen on weekdays.

 9:00 Get off at Hankyu Arashiyama Station, and rent a bicycle near station.
Hankyu Railway’s runs rent a cycle business and its shop is easy to access from Arashiyama station.

9:30-10:15  Iwatayama Monkey Park
120 monkeys live in this mountain. You need to climb up the mountain to enter Monkey park. Be aware of your steps.
Admission fee: 500 yen

10:30 Tenryu-ji Temple
Tenryu-ji Temple, which is top-ranked among the Five Great Zen Temples of Kyoto, is famous for strolling-style garden.

11:30 Chikurin-no-michi, or bamboo street and Nonomiya Shrine
Chikurin-no-michi is a small street with about 200 meter long extend from Okouchi Sanso to Nonomiya Shrine. It is a landmark of Arashiyama district next to Togetsukyo. You will go through with your bicycle and enjoy spectacular view of bamboo street.

Nonomiya Shrine is a historical shrine which was appeared on a famous japanese ancient story, "Genji Monogatari" with its important scene. It is also famous for matchmaking and a lot of women come to visit for marriage.

12:00 Okouchi Sanso
Okochi Sanso is based on a private garden of famous actor, Okochi Denjiro. It had spent about 30 years to make this huge beautiful garden. Now it is open to public.
You will be served matcha, or Japanese green tea and sweets.

Admission fee: 1,000 yen (it is very expensive, but worth of it.)

13:00 Lunch at "Togakushi", a reasonable Japanese restaurant, near Togetsukyo
It serves lunch at special reasonable price, 900 yen for all menu and they are all delicious.
